When Justice Speaks: More Than Just a Checkbox
Have you ever had one of those moments that stops you in your tracks? Where something inside you says, “This isn’t right, I have to speak up!”? That’s exactly what inspired my ‘Justice Speaks‘ design.
I created this during a time when I was wrestling with my own responsibility in the face of injustice. It’s simple, really – just two checkboxes. One says “Stays Silent, Looks the Other Way” and the other says “Speaks Out Against Injustice.” And yes, that second box is checked.
But this isn’t just about making a statement on a coffee mug or t-shirt. It’s about the daily choice we all face when we witness something wrong. Do we look away because it’s easier? Because it doesn’t directly affect us? Because speaking up might cost us something?
I’ve been guilty of silence too many times. Those moments haunt me – when I should have said something but didn’t. When the fear of awkwardness or conflict outweighed my commitment to what’s right. I created this design as a reminder to myself first and foremost.
Proverbs 31:8-9 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.“
Justice isn’t just an abstract concept- it’s about real people with real lives who sometimes need others to stand alongside them.
As far as the design itself, I intentionally kept it simple- there’s no political statement telling you which specific causes to support. It’s just a gentle reminder that when we encounter injustice- whatever that looks like in your world- speaking up matters.
Whether you’re sipping morning coffee from this mug, carrying groceries in this tote, or lounging in the comfortable tee or hoodie, my hope is that it serves as the nudge we all need sometimes. It is a visual reminder that our voices matter, that staying silent is a choice, and that speaking against injustice is ALWAYS worth checking that box.
I’d love to hear about times when you’ve spoken up against injustice (or maybe when you wish you had) because I think that’s one way we grow – by sharing these stories and encouraging each other to be a little braver next time.
Remember, JUSTICE SPEAKS – but only when we choose to give it a voice.
