Yahweh.
Unlike titles such as Lord, God, or Almighty, Yahweh is different. It’s the name God revealed to Moses from the burning bush – the name so sacred that many Jewish traditions avoid speaking it aloud. When Moses asked who he should say sent him, God answered simply: “I AM WHO I AM. Say to the Israelites, ‘I AM has sent me to you.'” This became YHWH in Hebrew – the personal, covenant name of God.
Fast forward to the New Testament, where we read another profound declaration: “God is love.” Not just that God loves (though He certainly does), but that love is His very essence, His nature, His identity.
When we pair these truths – that Yahweh is God’s personal name and that God is love – something beautiful emerges: Love is Yahweh. Love isn’t just an action God performs or a feeling He has. Love is who He is.
This changes everything about how we understand love itself. True love isn’t just emotional or sentimental. It’s not primarily about how we feel. Real love – Yahweh love – is faithful, covenant-keeping, sacrifice-making, truth-telling, sin-forgiving love.
