1 Corinthians 16:13 – A Call to Courage

Sometimes the most powerful statements are the simplest ones.

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13

When I designed this piece, I chose bold red lettering for a reason. These aren’t gentle suggestions whispered in passing- they’re battle cries. They’re the words you need emblazoned across your chest when life tries to knock you sideways.

Be On Your Guard

The world is full of voices telling us who we should be, what we should believe, and how we should live. Some of those voices come from well-meaning people. Others? Not so much. Being on guard doesn’t mean living in fear or suspicion—it means being discerning. It means knowing your values so well that you can spot anything that tries to pull you away from them.

Stand Firm in the Faith

Standing firm isn’t about being stubborn or closed-minded. It’s about having roots that go deep enough to weather the storms. When everything around you is shifting and uncertain, your faith becomes your anchor. It’s the thing that keeps you grounded when the world tries to convince you that up is down and wrong is right.

Be Courageous

Courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s doing what’s right despite the fear. It’s speaking up when it’s uncomfortable. It’s choosing love over hate, truth over convenience, and action over apathy. Courage is what separates those who merely exist from those who truly live.

Be Strong

Strength comes in many forms. Sometimes it’s the strength to endure. Sometimes it’s the strength to stand up. And sometimes—maybe most importantly—it’s the strength to be vulnerable, to admit when you need help, and to lean on something bigger than yourself.

These four commands work together. You can’t truly be courageous without being grounded in faith. You can’t stand firm without being on guard. And you can’t be strong without accessing the source of all strength.

When you wear this design, it’s your daily reminder that you have a choice in how you show up in the world. You can be reactive or intentional. You can be a victim of my circumstances or a warrior for your values.

The choice is always yours.

What does it look like for you to be on guard, be strong enough to stand firm and courageous?
